Just an ordinary Tuesday
My migraine day. Roughly once a month.
- 2:10 pmThat pulling behind my left eye. I know straight away how the rest of the day is going to go.
- 2:30 pmBlinds down. Phone face down. Ice pack out of the freezer, tea towel wrapped round it, because otherwise it burns.
- 3:00 pmThe ice pack is lukewarm. So up again. Light. Get a new one.
- 4:00 pmThe pill still isnโt working. Took it too late, like so often.
- Next morningThe attack is over, yes. But my head feels full of sand, my neck is rock hard. The usual aftermath.
What people with migraine write in forums
โThe pain was so bad I couldnโt even stand it in my dark bedroom.โ
rund-ums-baby.deโI am so fed up with the light sensitivityโ
rund-ums-baby.deโCouldnโt even go to work today because I took my pill too lateโ
rund-ums-baby.deโ3 days of migraine and Iโm not allowed to take anything...itโs just awfulโ
rund-ums-baby.deEverything that wasnโt enough
โI feel like Iโve tried everything.โ
- WashclothWarm after three minutes. Get up, wring it out, lie back down, all with the light on.
- Ice packToo cold straight out of the freezer, only lukewarm after 20 minutes.
- Peppermint oilโI canโt tolerate peppermint oil, it makes my eyes burn like fire.โ Same for me.
- IbuprofenTakes the edge off. Doesnโt make it go away.
- TriptansThey help. Mostly. After two hours. Afterwards Iโm exhausted, and sometimes itโs back the next day.
And then the guilt. Every month, the same thought:
โBut I just take them too often each month.โ
Whatโs really behind it
Your head has a smoke alarm.
For a long time I thought I was doing something wrong. Not drinking enough, too much stress, no idea. I mean, that plays a part, sure. But it was this picture that finally made it make sense.
For most people, the alarm only beeps when thereโs a real fire. Ours beeps when someone makes toast: a change in the weather, too little sleep, the days before your period. And once it goes off, it doesnโt stop any time soon.
And everything around it tenses up too: forehead, jaw, neck. 77% of people with migraine also have neck pain. An ice pack only ever covered one half.

The 2-phase ritual
Cold for the alarm. Warm for everything around it.
I was going to write that this is something completely new. It isnโt, really. Cold at the front, warmth at the back: lots of us already do that. Just with a washcloth and a wheat bag.
When the attack comes. Gel mask from the fridge on your forehead, temples and cheeks. Eyes closed, blinds down, about 20 minutes.
In the evening and the day after. Heated mask on level 1 or 2, 15 minutes, the timer switches it off.
An add-on, not a replacement. For the hours until the pill kicks in, and for the days when you donโt want to take one or arenโt allowed to.

I know what youโre thinking
Heat for a migraine. I know.
I flinched at first too. For me, a hot bath is more likely to bring on a migraine than help it. So hereโs honestly how I do it:
- 1Heat never goes on during an attack. When itโs throbbing, itโs Phase 1 only.
- 2Level 1 is gentle. More like a warm hand on your forehead than a heating pad.
- 3Your eyes stay free. Lie down, read or just breathe.
- 4If heat is a trigger for you, just skip Phase 2. Then youโve simply got a really good cooling mask. Thatโs fine too.

Phase 1
Cold and ready. No freezer needed.
The gel mask is filled with hundreds of tiny gel beads and rests softly on your forehead, temples and cheeks. It comes out of the fridge, not the freezer. Cold, but not icy, so nothing stings on your skin.
No getting up to swap it, no tea towel. Afterwards, give it a quick wipe, back in the fridge, and itโs ready for next time.
How your ritual works
3 steps to a calmer head
- Get readyGel mask in the fridge, heated mask by the bed. Your plan is in place before the next attack comes.
- Attack: coolGel mask on, blinds down, stay lying down for about 20 minutes.
- Afterwards: warmIn the evening or the next morning, 15 minutes of warmth on your forehead, cheeks and jaw.

Your first month
First the plan is in place. Then the ritual sticks.
- Day 1Get ready. Both masks in their places.
- 1st attackCool. No more tea towel, just the gel mask.
- Day afterWarm. 15 minutes, instead of the aftermath dragging on until evening.
- Weeks 3โ4Know. You know which days the Duo is enough for you and when youโll reach for a pill after all.
Migraine is still migraine. But youโre no longer lying in a dark room without a plan.

Frequently asked questions
Heat makes my migraine worse.
Then leave it out during the attack, thatโs exactly how the ritual is meant to work. Heat is for afterwards and for the pressure in your forehead, jaw and neck. If heat is a trigger for you at all, just use the cooling gel mask.
Nothing works for me without a pill.
You donโt have to go without. The Duo doesnโt replace any treatment. Lots of people use it for the hours until the pill kicks in, and on the days when they donโt want to take one or arenโt allowed to.
I already have ice packs.
Most come out of the freezer, start off too cold and then warm up fast. The gel mask comes out of the fridge and sits softly on your face. And for Phase 2 you had nothing at all until now.
Light is too much for me during an attack.
The gel mask has openings for your eyes, nose and mouth. During an attack, that means: eyes closed, blinds down, stay lying down. The heated mask leaves your eyes free too, after all itโs meant for the evening after.
How do I prepare the gel mask?
At least 30 minutes in the fridge, ideally just keep it there all the time. Please donโt put it on straight from the freezer. After use, give it a quick wipe and put it back.
How quickly does the heated mask warm up?
In about a minute, no preheating or microwave needed. 3 levels, a thermostat keeps the temperature steady, and the timer switches it off by itself. Please donโt wear it while you sleep.
Where do I plug it in?
Via USB into a standard plug adapter, a power bank or your laptop. At home, in the office or on the go.
How do I get the Duo price?
Choose the Clear Head Duo, Duo Plus or Duo for two above. In the Duo, the gel mask costs โฌ12.90 instead of โฌ29.90, and the price is adjusted automatically in your cart.
How do I clean the masks?
Wipe both with a slightly damp cloth. Unplug the heated mask first and donโt put it in water.
How quickly will my order arrive?
Your order is dispatched within 1โ3 working days, and shipping is free. Youโll get a tracking number and can follow your parcel any time via โOrder Trackingโ.
Can I pay by invoice?
Yes, you only pay once your parcel has arrived.

Picture your next attack
You donโt get up anymore. The plan is already there.
2:10 pm, that pulling behind your eye. You go to the fridge, take the mask, blinds down, stay lying down. No tea towel, no second ice pack. And the next morning, 15 minutes of warmth before the aftermath takes over your day.
It starts with a spot in your fridge.
If youโd like to try it: this is the Duo
